Port Royal Villas & Spa Review: The Rhodes Hotel I Never Wanted to Leave

My experience of staying at Sentido Port Royal Villas Spa in Rhodes, Greece:

If you've read a little of how I travel, you'll know I once admitted to spending an entire holiday at a resort and coming home without a single souvenir, other than the photos on my phone. This is that resort. SENTIDO Port Royal Villas & Spa.

First impressions:

Upon arrival we were greeted with welcome drinks while checking in, and given the wifi details straight away, which was great. The lobby was lovely, modern and clean.

After we were checked in, staff took our bags to a golf cart whereby we were then transported to our rooms whilst receiving a mini tour of the resort whilst mentioning the facilities and restaurants on site.

Our room:

The hotel had provided a beautiful spread of champagne, white wine, chocolate covered strawberries, water and fruits. The welcome amenity was a really nice warm gesture that made us feel special.

Our room was the Bungalow Side Sea View with Outdoor Jacuzzi which was a beautiful modern room. Honestly speaking I couldn't see much of the sea but I didn't mind as the bushes in the way meant we had more privacy on the terrace and in the jacuzzi.

The room was slightly further away from the main area of the hotel which made our stay feel like a retreat. Staying in this bungalow gave us a great balance as the main restaurants and bars are only a short walk away, so we did not feel too sectioned off from the rest of the hotel.

Food and drink:

We stayed on an all-inclusive basis which was the best decision for us because we had no intentions of leaving the resort. Mediterranean and international food is served at the hotel with many different restaurants and bars on site to choose from. The majority of the menu items had a crown symbol which meant they were included as part of our basis. Here are the places we ate during our stay:

Main Restaurant - Where the breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet is served. Offering a wide variety of foods to choose from. There was always something new to try daily and food was always fresh and well prepared. Breakfast is breakfast, but the food served at lunch and dinner here was delicious, I was impressed at the quality offered in the buffet.

La Pasteria Restaurant - Dinner/Late night dining served until 10:30pm. Visited one night to try their pizza as the aroma was enough to entice us, their authentic wood-fired pizza was great.

Armira Poolside Restaurant - Lunch serving traditional Greek cuisine. We loved having lunch here as their Greek salad was fresh and flavourful and the seafood dishes were really good. The sea bass, lobster roll and calamari were the highlights.

Armira Bar - This is where we enjoyed our drinks by the pool to soak up the scenic atmosphere and unwind in the evenings.

Facilities:

Port Villas does not disappoint as a 5 star luxury resort offering many facilities to keep you entertained:

• Spa and wellness centre

• Indoor pool

• Two outdoor pools

• A fitness centre

• Yoga centre

• Tennis and padel court

A standout feature of this hotel is the main pool that illuminates in the evening, creating a magical romantic vibe you can enjoy whilst having a drink by the pool bar. One of the many highlights of this hotel is the atmosphere and serenity it offers:

Who it's perfect for (and who it isn't)

Port Royal is a luxury five-star luxury beachfront adults-only resort in Kolymbia and it's about a 30 minute drive from Rhodes International Airport (RHO). Here's the honest bit, because a glowing review with no caveats isn't a review, it's an advert.

If you're after a calm, peaceful, switch-off kind of holiday — a honeymoon, an anniversary, or simply a couple's escape where the hotel is the destination — this is exactly the place for it.

If you're travelling with children, though, you'll need to look elsewhere, as under-16s aren't permitted. And if your ideal holiday is city-hopping, nightlife on your doorstep or a new town every day, this hotel probably isn't your match. It's a stay-put, slow-down sort of place. The local town of Kolymbia is right outside if you fancy wandering out for a drink or dinner somewhere different, but the real pull here is the resort itself.

Final thoughts

I managed to fall in love with this hotel from the hospitality, food and room alone — I didn't even fully explore the facilities it had on offer and I think that says a lot. I visited back in June 2023 and a few years on, it's still one of my favourite hotels I've ever stayed in and it was worth every penny.

If you want a peaceful, adults-only resort in Rhodes where the plan is to have great food and a beautiful place to unwind, Port Royal Villas & Spa is my recommendation. It's the rare hotel I'd happily room-rot in, and I mean that as the highest compliment I can give.
